FaceTime User Guide
Apple has updated the 12-inch Retina MacBook with Skylake processors, and even offered a Rose Gold version. But it still comes with a disappointing 480p FaceTime camera. The hardware is capable of 30fps, I have this model (MacBookPro9,1, i7 2.3 GHz) on my desk in front of me and just shot a movie that lists as 29.81fps at 720p. However, Apple will, in software, reduce the frame rate if your HDD/SSD/other storage and/or processor and memory are not capable of handling the maximum frame rate at the time of capture.
It's left us with the 720p FaceTime HD camera, which is a 1.2-megapixel webcam (with 1,280x720-pixel resolution) that badly lags behind the front-facing cameras on our smartphones. The FaceTime cameras included on all MacBook laptops and most iMac models are limited to just '720p' - which generally means a resolution of 1280x720 (although the FaceTime camera on.
